Rad. Tubular. Awesome.

Who doesn't love a party? And who didn't love the 80s? This year, why not host an 80s-themed Halloween party? Dress up and relive one of the most radical decades ever!

With a little advance planning, you can alert your guests to the party's theme so that everyone comes decked out in their best 80s apparel. Let them know that they don't necessarily have to purchase a pre-packaged costume - they can probably pull one together with stuff they have or stuff that is easy to find at party stores, thrift stores - or even in their own closet!

80s Valley Girl Teen Costume

  • "Vintage" t-shirts
  • Workout wear (Let's get physical!)

  • White glove?

Ladies with bangs can easily rock mall hair from back in 1986. All you need is a curling iron and a can of Aquanet. Curl, tease, and spray until bangs are hard, crunchy, and up-to-there. Guys can try to spike their hair into a faux-hawk or mohawk. Maybe even a mullet? While you're at it, spray it pink or purple or green!

Other costume ideas would be to dress like icons from the 80s: Olivia Newton John, Madonna, David Lee Roth, and Michael Jackson are just a few ideas. Then there's some other favorites from that era: Pac Man, Rainbow Brite, Cabbage Patch Kids, the Care Bears...

For snacks, you can make sugar cookies and decorate them to look like Pac Man. Stock up on 80s favorites like Kool-Aid, Tang, Rice Krispie Treats, fruit roll-ups, Jell-O pudding pops, and Tab. Visit the party store or candy store to load up on retro goodies like candy necklaces, Pixy Stix, Pop Rocks, and Fun Dip.

For party favors, give your guests glow sticks, glow necklaces and glow bracelets. Or, see if you can find old-school slap bracelets or jelly bracelets at party stores and craft stores.

Have a shirt-painting party. Supply your guests with lots of puffy paint and glitter paint, and ask them to bring a t-shirt to decorate and bedazzle! You could even get together and tie-dye shirts, too!

If it's a smaller party, consider having a movie marathon.

You can play creepy 80s flicks like Friday the 13th, Poltergeist, Gremlins, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

Or you can watch 80s favorites like ET, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, St, Elmo's Fire, and Say Anything.

If most of your guests were preteens/teens during the 80s, you can play some silly games from back in the day like Truth or Dare or Spin the Bottle.

Break out the Atari... or the Wii, XBox, or PS3. Almost all modern gaming systems have retro or throwback versions of old arcade favorites like PacMan, Asteroids, Space Invaders, etc. Have a video game tournament!

See if you can get your hands on some Rubik's cubes and have a Rubik's cube contest. Can anybody figure those things out?

Or throw on some music! Think hair bands and power ballads! Every 80s party soundtrack should include music from the following:

  • Survivor
  • Robert Palmer
  • Yes
  • Steve Winwood
  • Lionel Richie
  • Men At Work
  • Culture Club
  • Thompson Twins
  • Tears for Fears
  • Firehouse
